Muntons English Malt Bag

Made from Muntons PLC malt bags, which are used by Stewarts Brewing Company in Bear, Delaware.

Each Muntons malt bag is marked with a batch code, allowing them to track each sack of grain back to the individual farm where the barley came from. We asked them about the batch code on the first bag we got from Stewarts, and they responded the next day with a very nice message:

“I have looked into the background behind the batch number that you quoted. The sack contained Pale ale malt made from the barley variety “Pearl” which is a derivative of the famous “Maris Otter” variety. It was grown in the county of Norfolk in the East Anglian region of the UK. Harvested in August 2007 and malted in our Stowmarket malting in the Heart of Suffolk, then shipped to the USA to be turned into beer in your local microbrewery.

I hope that this helps – nice bag by the way – very ecologically sound too.
