German Malt Sacks from Iron Hill West Chester, Sly Fox Royersford, and Flying Fish Cherry Hill!
Made from Weyermann Specialty Malt grain sacks. The bags have a big bold logo and plentiful umlauts, and are stamped with the contents: “Munich Malt Type 1”, for instance. The barley in the bags was used to make beer — and then the cooked grain was given to local farmers to feed livestock!
Weyermann grain sacks are made from polypropylene, which can be recycled as number 5 plastic.
Pictured at left: Randy Schmidt (just look at how happy this bag made him!), and Kate Young, holding the first Weyermann bag that Larry Horwitz, Iron Hill’s head brewer, gave us when we wandered in for an impromptu tour of the operation on the corner of Gay and High in West Chester.
The bags have dual handles: short and long.
